Liz Tucker collects Newport Film Festival Award on behalf of WFTV - 7 February 2019

Liz Tucker last night, on behalf of Women in Film and TV,  collected the Arts Champion Award  “in recognition of outstanding organizations, corporations, institutions or individuals that promote, defend, produce, educate, and encourage creativity and the arts” at the Newport Film Festival Awards.

The awards were  held at the Langham hotel in London on Thursday, 7^th February. On a star studded  night, other winners at the awards included Lesley Manville, Rob Brydon, Lily Cole, Joanne Froggatt,  Laura Carmichael , Julian Fellowes, John Lloyd, Hannah John Kamen and Richard Dormer.

 Liz said in her acceptance speech:

“I’d like to thank our incredible team in the WFTV office and our wonderful WFTV board. Our organisation’s success as a non-profit relies not on any one person but on a large number of dedicated and committed women. Without them, Women in Film and TV would not be the success that it is today, that’s why this award means so much to all of us”.

To loud cheers in the room, Liz went on to say that she hoped that one day women working in film and TV would have the same opportunities and rewards as men.

But as she reminded the audience:  “the lack of female directors in both the recent BAFTA and Oscar nominations show how far we still have to go. In 91 years, only five women have ever been nominated for best director in the Oscars”.

There was tremendous support for WFTV throughout the night, which meant a huge amount to everyone on the WFTV team, who celebrated with copious amounts of prosecco and several Newport Beach cocktails!
