Claudia Winkleman and Lisa McGee winners at WFTV awards - 3 December 2019

Strictly co-presenter Claudia Winkleman and Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee were among the winners at this year’s Women in Film & Television Awards in London.

The EON Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to actor, presenter and writer Lady Floella Benjamin. In 2010, Lady Benjamin was introduced to the House of Lords as a life peer and also holds a position on the Communications Committee.

Sister founder Jane Featherstone, who recently launched the indie with Liz Murdoch and Stacey Snider, was presented with The Barclays Business Award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the industry.

Best performance  award went to actor Samantha Morton for her C4 drama I Am.

The star-studded awards were attended by a host of high-profile women and men, including director Gurinder Chadhacomedian Katherine Ryan and actors Ruth Wilson and Helena Bonham Carter and were hosted by Sandi Toksvig.

WFTV chair and acting chief executive Liz Tucker during her keynote speech said: “What our awards demonstrate more vividly than any data or survey is the huge number of talented women working in film and TV in the UK.

“Today is our chance to celebrate them and their achievements and inspire women working throughout our industry to send a very clear message that there should be no limit to their ambitions”.
